Week 35 — Sex
"As for lewd conduct or promiscuousness or lust of any sort, let them not even be mentioned among you; your holiness forbids this. Nor should there be any obscene, silly, or suggestive talk; all that is out of place." —Ephesians 5:3-4
Jump to day: Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat
Sunday
"It is God's will that you grow in holiness: that you abstain from immorality, each of you guarding his member in sanctity and honor, not in passionate desire as do the Gentiles who know not God." —1 Thes 4:3-5
Conversation:
Spirit: When you enter the kingdom, you are set free from the world's bondage to sexual sin. Even the mention of sexual impurity is out of place because of your holiness, because you are set apart and chosen out of the world. Respect yourself, your body, and your sexuality. You are loved.
Temple: Holy Spirit, You have created my sexual organs and desires. I am very good (Gn 1:31).
Response:
Love Me dwelling in your body.
Monday
"God created man in His image; in the divine image He created him; male and female He created them." —Gn 1:27
Conversation:
Spirit: I created both sexes. I created you different and complementary. You sinned and brought disorder into your sexuality. The Father sent Jesus, and through faith in Him you can be truly free and victorious over sexual temptations. Without Jesus, sex will hurt and enslave you. Jesus and the Father sent Me to live in your body.
Temple: Holy Spirit, thank You for Your indwelling. Thank You for my redemption and for making me a new creation, much greater than the original creation.
Response:
Love God's plan of salvation.
Tuesday
"Do not deceive yourselves: no fornicators, idolaters, or adulterers, no sodomites...will inherit God's kingdom. And such were some of you; but you have been washed, consecrated, justified in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God." —1 Cor 6:9-11
Conversation:
Spirit: When you've accepted Jesus into your life, you have a new sexuality. However, you are carrying a burden of sexual sin and guilt because of the sin of masturbation, oral sex in marriage, artificial contraception, and homosexual acts. Do you want Me to free you? Accept Jesus, confess your sins. Be healed. "The old order has passed away; now all is new!" (2 Cor 5:17)
Temple: Holy Spirit, I'm ashamed of some of the things I have done. I flagrantly disobeyed You. Cleanse me.
Response:
Love the forgiveness and freedom of Confession.
Wednesday
"Can you not see that the man who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? Scripture says, 'The two shall become one flesh.' " —1 Cor 6:16
Conversation:
Spirit: Many of you have had sexual relations outside of marriage. You are bonded to those sexual partners. When you confess the sins of adultery and fornication, ask Jesus to break those bonds. You will be immediately released from tension and confusion.
Temple: Holy Spirit, You are doing the impossible. You are doing what I despaired of ever being done. I love purity now more than sex. I love You more than I love pleasure.
Response:
Love sexual purity.
Thursday
"Some men are incapable of sexual activity from birth; some have been deliberately made so; and some there are who have freely renounced sex for the sake of God's reign. Let him accept this teaching who can." —Mt 19:12
Conversation:
Spirit: Some brothers and sisters are given the gift to renounce sex for the sake of the kingdom. This is a declaration of independence for all the members of Christ's body. Sexual relations in marriage are good, but marriage is not My will for everyone (1 Cor 7:1).
Temple: Holy Spirit, Your ways are not ours (Is 55:8).
Response:
Love submission to His sovereign lordship.
Friday
"What I say to you is: anyone who looks lustfully at a woman has already committed adultery with her in his thoughts." —Mt 5:28
Conversation:
Spirit: What you now call "prime time TV" used to be called "pornography." The old name is correct. Stop taking garbage into your body, soul, and spirit. How can I live inside of you when you try to bury Me in garbage? Stop this. Gouge out your eye if you have to (Mt 5:29). You know what I mean.
Temple: Holy Spirit, these TV programs don't bother me that much.
Spirit: They bother Me because I love you. Respect yourself. Stop abusing yourself.
Response:
Love "all that is honest, pure, admirable, decent, virtuous, or worthy of praise" (Phil 4:8).
Saturday
"They stripped off His clothes and wrapped Him in a scarlet military cloak." —Mt 27:28
Conversation:
Spirit: Jesus was stripped naked for you. From that point on, the naked human body became overshadowed by Calvary. By the cross, you have been crucified to sexual sin (Gal 6:14).
Temple: Holy Spirit, thank You for the armor of God, especially the truth as the belt protecting my sexual organs (Eph 6:14; 1 Thes 4:4). Thank You for victory and my redeemed sexuality.
Response:
Love the intimacy of Holy Communion
