truthful demonic lies

"Unclean spirits would catch sight of Him, fling themselves down at His feet, and shout, 'You are the Son of God!', while He kept ordering them sternly not to reveal who He was." —Mark 3:11-12

Demons would throw themselves at Jesus' feet and shout, "You are the Son of God!" (Mk 3:11) Jesus told them to shut up. What's wrong with proclaiming Jesus as the Son of God? The profession of Jesus as the Son of God is the culmination of Mark's Gospel. "The centurion who stood guard over Him, on seeing the manner of His death, declared, 'Clearly this Man was the Son of God!' " (Mk 15:39) Professing Jesus as the Son of God eventually became one of the most important statements of the Creed. The demons Jesus drove out were saying the truth, the gospel truth. They were even saying what would later be the heart of the Creed. Why did Jesus keep "ordering them sternly not to reveal who He was"? (Mk 3:12)

Satan, being the father of lies (Jn 8:44), is a master-liar. His demons are also expert liars. They can even tell a lie by telling the truth at the moment and in the circumstances when the truth will be misunderstood. Demons tried to associate Jesus' sonship and divinity with healings and miracles. This would have led to serious misunderstandings. Jesus wants His divine sonship to be associated with the cross (see Mk 15:39). Only at the cross is the person and mission of Jesus rightly understood. Don't believe the demons' truthful lies about Jesus. Know nothing but Christ crucified (1 Cor 2:2).

Prayer:  Father, give me courage to tell the truth always, especially at the right time and in the right place.

Promise:  "Therefore He is always able to save those who approach God through Him, since He forever lives to make intercession for them." —Heb 7:25

Praise:  Max quit believing the lie that his homosexual activity was okay. He accepted this cross, and the grace to live chastely. He then began ministering Jesus to others with similar tendencies.
