knowledge makes love possible
"The Spirit scrutinizes all matters, even the deep things of God." —1 Corinthians 2:10
To totally give our lives to the Lord, we must love Him deeply. To love Him, we must know Him. To know the Lord and "what lies at the depths of God," we need the Holy Spirit to be fully active in our lives (1 Cor 2:11).
The Holy Spirit produces His fruit of love (Gal 5:22) by the charism of knowledge (see 1 Cor 12:8). The Holy Spirit lets us know God's love for us by crying out in our hearts "Abba!" ("Father!") (Rm 8:15; Gal 4:6) Knowing that God is our Father and loves us perfectly and infinitely, we accept the grace to love Him. We love because "we have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us" (1 Jn 4:16).
Almost everyone wants more love in his life. To have the possibility of greater love, we need deeper knowledge of God. Only the Holy Spirit can give us this knowledge. Consequently, in this long-awaited year of the Great Jubilee, we cry out: "Come, Holy Spirit!"
Prayer: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, may I know You in the depths of the Trinity. To know You I will accept anything — even what I don't understand.
Promise: "They were spellbound by His teaching, for His words had authority." —Lk 4:32
Praise: In trying to teach her children about God, Rita realized she herself didn't know much about Him. Her search for answers led her to come to know the Love of her life.
