jesus is god
"Therefore let no man separate what God has joined." —Mark 10:9
Jesus told the Pharisees that He was going to change the Mosaic law and no longer permit divorce (Mk 10:4ff). In effect, Jesus claimed that He had the authority to complete the Bible. Moses allowed divorce because of the stubbornness of our fallen human nature (Mk 10:5). Therefore, when Jesus prohibited divorce, He implied that He would change our stubbornness by either restoring our nature to the way it was before the first sin or by changing our nature to be even better than when humanity was originally created. Jesus maintained that He could write the Bible and re-create human nature. In effect, Jesus said He was God.
Therefore, we proclaim "Jesus is God" when:
- We believe the New Testament.
- A couple is faithful in their marriage.
- A divorced person does not try to re-marry.
- We believe that our sins are forgiven (see Mk 2:7).
- We forgive, for "to err is human and to forgive is divine."
- We live our baptismal promises.
- We worship Jesus, especially at Mass and in receiving Holy Communion.
- We celebrate His resurrection each week.
Each day, we should be living in such a way that we are repeatedly proclaiming: "Jesus is God."
Prayer: Jesus, may people who don't know You observe my everyday life and come to the conclusion that I believe You are God.
Promise: "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body." —Gn 2:24
Praise: Praise You, Jesus, "my Lord and my God!" (Jn 20:28)
