today
"You will long to see one day of the Son of Man but will not see it." —Luke 17:22
"God once more set a day, 'today' " (Heb 4:7). Today is the day the Lord has made (Ps 118:24). Today the Lord is providing us with our daily bread (Mt 6:11). Today is a day of rest (Heb 4:8-9), life, and love. Today is the acceptable time, the day of salvation (2 Cor 6:2).
But as the seasons change, the days change. "We must do the deeds of Him Who sent Me while it is day. The night comes on when no one can work" (Jn 9:4). "Give glory to the Lord, your God, before it grows dark" (Jer 13:16). "Make the most of the present opportunity, for these are evil days" (Eph 5:16).
"A time will come when you will long to see one day of the Son of Man but will not see it" (Lk 17:22). "The Son of Man in His day will be like the lightning that flashes from one end of the sky to the other" (Lk 17:24). "Today, if you should hear His voice, harden not your hearts" (Heb 4:7; Ps 95:7-8).
Prayer: Father, may I put in a good day's work, love, and worship for You.
Promise: "She, who is one, can do all things, and renews everything while herself perduring; and passing into holy souls from age to age, she produces friends of God and prophets." —Wis 7:27
Praise: Mother Cabrini's motto was: "I can do all things through Him Who strengthens me" (see Phil 4:13).
