peace talks
"Peace is My gift to you." —John 14:27
"They stoned Paul and dragged him out of the town, leaving him there for dead" (Acts 14:19). Yet Jesus promised: " 'Peace' is My farewell to you" (Jn 14:27). If we are to have peace even when being beaten up, then obviously the Lord does not give peace as the world gives peace (Jn 14:27). He gives a peace "beyond all understanding" (Phil 4:7). In Christ, we find peace not only in the absence of suffering, but especially in the midst of suffering (Jn 16:33). Therefore, because Jesus' farewell gift of peace need not be affected by circumstances, we can live in His peace always.
Jesus has given us this miraculous peace by giving us the Holy Spirit, Who produces the fruit of peace (Gal 5:22). One of the first words spoken by the risen Christ was "Peace" (Mt 28:9; Jn 20:19, 21). Then Jesus breathed on His followers and said: "Receive the Holy Spirit" (Jn 20:22). This Pentecost, die to yourself and let the Holy Spirit have His way in your life. He will give you peace and even make you a peacemaker (Mt 5:9).
Prayer: Father and Jesus, give me the power of peace when the Holy Spirit comes down on me (Acts 1:8).
Promise: "We must undergo many trials if we are to enter into the reign of God." —Acts 14:22
Praise: Alex and Elizabeth had a fight. They found that they were unable to find peace in prayer. Once they had apologized and reconciled with each other, they again experienced God's presence in their prayers.
