"May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to think in harmony with one another, in keeping with Christ Jesus, that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ" Romans 15:5
Now we are a community of two couples with grown children, one widow with grown children, and two divorced women with grown children. Three of us are from the original community. We are looking forward to growing again and branching again if the is God's will for us. We meet twice each month and include Evening Prayer from Liturgy of the Hours in our meeting. We share a meal and have a teaching by someone in the community who has a gift for teaching. We are blessed to have a soon to be deacon as our leader. (Wayne will be ordained 6-28-2008)
Servants of Encouragement started in 2000 with two couples and a divorced woman. All of our children were grown. After about a year we did an outreach for new members and increased our size adding several families with children. After a while the community branched to accommodate more people and we grew again to branch again two more times. Each time we branched we lost families with smalll children until in 2007 we became a community without small children again.
Our community serves the parish in which we live in two different ways. First we spawn communities! We now have five PM communities in our parish. Second we teach Bible Study and sponsor the PM Bible Telephone Line.
Community has become essential in our lives. The covenants are the reason. Our covenants are designed to help us grow in our Catholic faith and spirituality. Even when we do not see each other for awhile, which sometimes happens, or if we have to miss a meeting (which is rare) we have the covenants to remind us daily that we are part of a committed group of people who are striving just as we are to live our lives under the Lordship of Jesus. It makes all the difference on a day to day basis!
