"I call heaven and earth today to witness against you: I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live, by loving the LORD, your God, heeding his voice, and holding fast to him. For that will mean life for you, a long life for you to live on the land which the LORD swore he would give to your fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." Deuteronomy 30:19-20
We presently have ten families who meet on the first and third Saturday evenings of the month, usually for praise, rosary, teaching and fellowship. Members take turns hosting, teaching and supervising children. Occasionally we’ll have work days at the Discipleship Center or members’ homes. Various members frequent daily Mass, monthly confession, Bible studies, men’s and women’s prayer groups, volunteer with child care, meal chains, prayer chains and assist in ministries within individual parishes. Many members are home schooling, also.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Home-Based Community began in 1988 at David and Janet Willig’s home. David and Janet were asked by Father Al to invite people to a home-based community like the Handermann’s
Our home-based community mission is pro-life ministry; we’re active in pro-life and family parish work, support pro-life candidates for elected office, support pregnancy centers, etc.
One of our families expressed the effect of our home-based community this way: "God's plan was for us to join this home-based community. To share each other's burdens, to pray for each other's needs as if they are our own needs. And for us all to share in each other's most special events, especially the sacraments. What a gift!"
